Milford Sound is widely considered one of the world's great natural wonders -a dramatic fiord carved by glaciers, flanked by sheer cliff faces rising over 1,200 metres from the water. This full-day Skymate experience combines the legendary Milford Road scenic drive with stops at Mirror Lakes and the Avenue of the Disappearing Mountain, followed by a cruise through the heart of Fiordland National Park.
Itinerary
- 06:30 -07:30: Early departure from Queenstown or Te Anau. Your guide introduces the day's route and points of interest along the way.
- 09:00: First stop -Mirror Lakes, where the surrounding mountain peaks reflect perfectly in the still waters on calm mornings.
- 09:30: Continue through the Homer Tunnel -a remarkable 1.2 km hand-hewn tunnel bored through solid granite.
- 10:30 -11:00: Arrival at Milford Sound wharf. Board your cruise vessel for a guided narrated cruise through the fiord.
- 11:00 -13:00: Milford Sound cruise -past Stirling Falls, Lady Bowen Falls, and the open Tasman Sea at the fiord's mouth. Watch for dolphins, seals, and penguins.
- 13:00 -13:30: Lunch at the wharf caf (own cost) with stunning mountain views.
- 13:30 -17:30: Return scenic drive to Queenstown or Te Anau with additional commentary stops.
