Overview

The Coromandel Peninsula stretches northeast of Auckland -a place of ancient kauri forests, white sand beaches, and volcanic rock formations sculpted over millions of years. Cathedral Cove is one of New Zealand's most photographed spots, accessible only by boat or foot along a coastal track. Hot Water Beach sits just south, where natural geothermal springs seep up through the sand -visitors dig their own private hot pool right beside the ocean. This Skymate day tour captures both highlights and more in a single relaxed day.

Itinerary

  • 07:00: Depart Auckland CBD heading east along State Highway 2, then north toward the peninsula.
  • 09:00: Arrive Hahei village. Walk the scenic coastal track to Cathedral Cove (approx 45 minutes one way). Your guide explains the formation of the iconic limestone arch.
  • 11:30: Return to Hahei for a swim and light refreshments at a local caf (own cost).
  • 12:30: Drive south to Hot Water Beach. Hire a spade and dig your own thermal pool in the sand as the tide allows. Best experienced 2 hours either side of low tide.
  • 14:00: Scenic coastal drive through Coromandel town with a short stop to view the harbour and sample local fare if time permits.
  • 15:00: Begin return journey to Auckland.
  • 17:30: Estimated arrival back in Auckland CBD.
